Charger Boltaholic Briefing

December 4, 2009

This briefing unofficially brought to you by the Charger Girls, although I'm sure they would approve.(photo Mike Nowak, Chargers.com)

  • SI.com gives the Chargers their due. Seems like stock in Philip Rivers has increased ten fold since he crushed Denver and KC in back to back games.

Suddenly, even though many analysts predicted they’d fold up and disappear with loses to Philly and the G-men, which  never happened, the “experts” around the league are saying things like, “I’ve been saying it all year – the Chargers are for real.”

I’m not implying that SI.com said that, but for many of the analysts who did -you haven’t been saying it all year. Early in the year, you ignored what was really going with the team and said Norv can’t coach, LT and Merriman are finished and the Chargers were done.

Sorry for the commentary, back to the briefing…

  • As commented on, by yours truly, Cromartie is free to continue populating the world. Many stories, here’s the one on the Tribune. The funny quote is when Cro claims to be tired of being “slandered.” Yes, I imagine it would get tiresome. TMZ had a blurb as well which prompts me to issue the following statement. TMZ is garbage. There, I said it.
  • The Bleacher Report has a nice article pondering the rest of the season and suggests that the Chargers release of Chambers can have far reaching positive results.
  • The Sporting News has 5 reasons why the Chargers are the team to beat in the AFC.
  • The San Jose Mercury news, which carries a lot of Charger info. from season to season, reports on the trio of defensive Chargers likely to miss this weeks game. They would be Merriman, Castillo and Weddle.
  • Chargers learning to drive, says SDUT.
  • Finally, for today, SD BoltReport has a good game preview with personnel updates and the like leading into Sunday’s game.

Today’s Boltaholic Briefing is sidelined

AT&T gets a 15 yard penalty for intermittent internet. Halfway through it all  went south…

Boltaholic Briefing

December 1, 2009
  • The Bleacher Report sizes up the last five games of the season. Wait, didn’t the season just start?
  • North County Times gives player updates. Merriman has that foot problem that nobody can pronounce, we’ll likely see Hardwick back, but not as a starter, and Jon Runyan is getting up to speed.
  • Back in old Cleveland it looks like they might be facing a blackout. Nice to see the NFL spreading love across the country with their non-fan-friendly ways. Happy holidays Cleveland. What a drag.
  • Buffalo News Sports correctly predicts that the Colts might not want a piece of the Bolts come playoff time in a good league-wide round-up
  • The LA Times covers the Chargers. Hey look someone noticed that LT is now a top 10 running back. Top 10 of all time that is…
  • SDUT has a story suggesting Turner get his extension now. The comment boards are pretty funny. There are a lot of confused Norv haters out there. Norv hater, “We  are supposed to hate Norv – but he’s winning… Does not compute. Why would I hate Norv if the Chargers are winning, system shutting down, can’t breath – goodbye cruel world…” [nothing]
  • Bolts from the Blue offers Bolts and Dolts though the first 11 games.

Monday Morning Boltaholic Briefing

November 30, 2009
  • San Diego Union Tribute has a story about Rivers and his thoughts on the game. “His heave was his highlight.”
  • Kevin Acee at SDUT writes about the lead-up to the “month of perfection” which has this gem of a quote from former Bear Mike Brown, “They played us twice and beat the (expletive) out of us,” Chiefs safety Mike Brown said. “… I think they have the talent to do it all.”
  • USA Today wrote on Shaun Phillips apology to Josh McDanials, “I said ‘We’re going to beat that (rear end). I meant it by our team, not me. I meant we’re going to win. In no way was I threatening or challenging him personally. I’m sorry if he felt that way. I respect him. It’s up to him to accept my apology.”
  • The Kansas City Star found a storyline that started with something besides, “Yes, we’re THAT bad.”
  • NFL.com speaks to a couple of injuries to key players. No surprise here.
  • Casey Pearce from Chargers.com has a nice article, about the dominance the defense has displayed.
  • Bolts from the Blue has a great game recap. As an aside, it’s been nice watching them grow over time.

That’s all there’s time for this morning. Have a good day Charger fans! Nothing like the Monday after a victory. Now where’s that jerk who’s been talking smack all week…?
